Here is just a sampling of what this month has to offer, for those who love Halloween, and those who prefer some less spooky activities.

Cinespia Cemetery Screenings

Chinatown Until Oct 29, 2022

Every year, Cinespia takes over the resting place of Old Hollywood greats by playing classic cult films, with some off-site screenings as well. Every night at the Hollywood Forever Cemetary, pack some snacks and drinks (alcohol is allowed) and enjoy DJs, dance parties and all sorts of other fun activities not usually permitted within the cemetery grounds.

The legendary former LA Laker Shaquille O’Neal is bringing Shaqtoberfest to the grounds outside of the Queen Mary from late September through Halloween with a mix of family-friendly activities, attractions and after-dark haunts, all narrated by Shaq himself.

Ohana Festival

Orange County Sep 30 – Oct 9, 2022

The Ohana Festival, brought to you by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder is taking over Doheny State Beach in Dana Point once again. Vedder along with other artists like Stevie Nicks, Jack White and P!nk are headlining this year’s festival, which takes place this weekend, September 30th to October 2nd. Then the following weekend, they return with Ohana Encore, featuring Eddie Vedder, Alanis Morissette and the Roots on October 8th and the Black Keys, HAIM and Band of Horses on October 9th.

Boo at the Zoo

Griffith Park Oct 1 – Oct 31, 2022

Along with their Haunted Hayride, the L.A. Zoo’s yearly Halloween festivities include a month of scary décor, and the chance to get up-close and personal with some of the zoo’s creepiest residents. Weekends will showcase additional Halloween-themed entertainment and activities. The animals celebrate Halloween along with the visitors, with pumpkin or carcass feedings, usually scheduled on weekends.

Oktoberfest at Fairplex

Pomona Oct 7 – Oct 22, 2022

The grounds of the L.A. County Fair, Fairplex, becomes a German wonderland on Fridays and Saturdays for Oktoberfest. Bavarian music, chicken dancing and of course bratwurst, knockwurst and other tasty treats can be enjoyed. We cannot forget the authentic Bavarian beer at this 21-plus event with DJs, oompah bands and other musical acts.

Pumpkins in the Pines

Lake Arrowhead Oct 8 – Oct 30, 2022

No October is complete without pumpkin picking. Head out to the Lake Arrowhead amusement park for a month of Halloween-themed activities. Throughout October, the typically Christmas-themed park gets taken over with pumpkins and haybales. The park is open on select days during the week, but the Halloween activities are limited to the weekends (Saturday and Sunday). Along with pumpkin-picking, activities include: painting, cookie decorating, an after-dark light show, trick or treating, and even a puppet and magic show.

DineLA

Oct 14 – Oct 28, 2022

Typically a summer event, DineLA has pivoted to fall this year. Across the city, you’ll find special menus, both available for takeout or dine-in, depending on the restaurant. This is great if you want some budget-friendly eats, with lunch as low as $15 and dinner, $25.

NickFest

Pasadena Oct 22 – Oct 23, 2022

The Rose Bowl will host NickFest, featuring a lineup of Nickelodeon-approved acts for a family-friendly 2-day event. This is billed as an all-ages event, so even the older crowd might find some acts filling them with nostalgia. And don’t forget the slime!

Halloweenie, one of the city’s hottest annual dance parties is back for another year and always for a good cause! Touted as “the largest, loudest and SEXIEST Gay Halloween Fundraiser”, Halloweenie features a host of DJs at the Belasco Theater. This year’s beneficiary is Project Angel Food.
